Off Beat Treks In Ladakh
Ladakh offers world-class trekking opportunities! Staggering views of snow-clad peaks, traditional villages, and ancient Buddhist monasteries are just some of the features that make for an extraordinary mountain experience. Hiking fans and trekking enthusiasts find in Ladakh a wide route range, from easy day trips to strenuous multi-week experiences.
In our camping-style trekking, the entire logistics (tents, utensils, food, main luggage, etc.) is transported by horses or ponies. You will be accompanied by a local team. During the entire trekking program, they will find a suitable camping location, pitch up the tents, cook food, and make sure you can fully enjoy your trip. You will be walking with your guide from camp to camp, carrying your day pack with pick-nick lunch, and your personal belongings.
If you plan a camping-style trekking during the high season months of July and August, it can happen that there is a shortage of horses/ponies and/or other staff members. We therefore recommend our dear guests to confirm a camping-style trekking months in advance so that we are able to book the horses/ponies, and local staff in good time.
The price for a camping-style trekking includes transportation to and from trekking point, the local crew members, the entire logistics, horses/ponies. Other (personal) expenses, like flight costs, tips, etc. are not included in the price. Please note: If wished, it is possible to book an extra horse/pony as riding alternative for a member of your party. Kindly inform us accordingly as we have to book the ponies/horses well in advance.

Trekking from Phyang to Hunder6 days / moderate to vigorous / 5 to 8 hours per day
Highest point: Lasirmo-la (5,440 m) The best time for this trekking into Nubra Valley is from mid July till ends of October. Also, it is one of the best trekking routes in Ladakh in terms of proximity, landscape, cleanliness, and less touristic activity. After leaving the lush Phyang village, the terrain will get more barren the closer you get to Lasirmo-la. From the top of the pass, you have great views of the Zangskar and Karakoram Mountain Ranges. After crossing the pass, and a part of the glacier, you will descend into the beautiful valley until reaching Hundar Dok, and finish the trek in Hundar. You can extend this itinerary by choosing to visit the village of Turtuk with its Balti culture near the border of India and Pakistan. Another alternative is the Base Camp of the world's highest battle field at Siachen Glacier. On the way back to Leh, you will cross the Kardong-la (5,360 m) and enjoy the world highest motorable road. Trekking from Rumtse to Tso Moriri8 days / vigorous / 6 to 7 hours per day
Highest point: Kyamaru-la (5,410 m) This trek is one of the most beautiful trekking in Ladakh situated in the Eastern Part of the region, on the Changtang Plateau. Here live the nomads with their livestock. They keep yaks, sheep and goats, and produce the world's finest goat wool, locally named "lena", and globally known as "pashmina". From the Changtang Plateau with is vast highlands, and unique landscape you will be walking to the stunning lakes of Tso Kar and Tso Moriri. The entire trekking will be on an altitute above of 4,000 m. Itinerary: Day 1 Leh - Rumtse - Kyamar / Day 2 Kyamar - Tisaling via Kyamaru-la / Day 3 Tisaling - Ponganagu / Day 4 Ponganagu - Nuruchan / Day 5 Nuruchan - Gyama Barma / Day 6 Gyama Barma - Gyamar via Kartse-la / Day 7 Gyamar - Korzok / Day 8 Korzok - Leh |
Rupshu / Kharnak Trekking11 days / moderate to challenging / 5 to 6 hours per day
Highest point: Zalungkarpo-la ( 5,200 m) This trekking combines two great trekking routes. The entire trekking route is absolutely stunning: You will be starting from the Markha Valley with its towering, jagged mountains until you reach the highlands of the Changtang Plateau with its vast landscapes and mesmerizing lakes. You can extend this itinerary by two more days to visit the lake of Tso Moriri (via Puga Valley) and the Hanle Basin. Itinerary: Day 1 Leh - Jingchan - Yurutse or Basecamp of Ganda-la / Day 2 Yurutse or Basecamp of Ganda-la to Skyu / Day 3 Skyu - Markha / Day 4 Markha - Hankar / Day 5 Hankar - Langthangchan / Day 6 Langthangchan - Tsogra / Day 7 Tsogra - Dat / Day 8 Dat - Lungmoche via Yar-la / Day 9 Lungmoche - Zara / Day 10 Zara - Pangunagu or Tso Kar / Day 11 Tso Kar - Leh |
Zangskar Trekking12 days / challenging / 5 to 7 hours per day
Highest point: Singge-la ( 5,050 m) The previous trekking route of the Zangskar Valley Trek was from Lamayuru to Padum (10 days) with possible addition of Padum to Darcha (10 days). However, there are road construction works going on in the valley, so we have found an alternate route from Padum to Kanji (total 12 days), or vice versa, to avoid the major parts of the newly built jeep road. The trekking from Padum to Darcha is still very much possible if the road is not a problem for you. Itinerary: Part by Taxi: Day 1 Leh to Mulbek (174 km) / Day 2 Mulbek to Rangdum via Kargil / Day 3 Rangdum to Padum (110 km) / Trekking Part: Day 4 Padum - Stongday - Karsha - Pishu / Day 5 Pishu - Hanumil / Day 6 Hanumil - Snertse / Day 7 Snertse - Lingshed / Day 8 Lingshed - Gazo or Basecamp of Singge-la / Day 9 Gazo or Basecamp of Singge-la - Photoksar via Singge-la / Day 10 Photoksar - Spangshan / Day 11 Spangshan - Shila Kung via Snigutse-la / Day 12 Shila Kung - Kanji via Yokma-la, and drive back to Leh |
Markha Valley Trekking7 days / moderate / 5 to 8 hours per day
Highest point: Kongmaru-la (5,200 m) The Markha Valley is one of the best known trekking routes. Due to its accessibility, it is easy reachable by taxi and not far from Leh. You can choose from two access points, Jingchan or Chilling. The valley offers stunning views of the mountains, and if you are lucky, you will encounter wild animals as the valley is part of the Hemis National Park. At Nimaling, the last camp before Kongmaru-la, you will see the mighty peak of Kangyatse (6,400 m). Itinerary: Day 1 Jingchang – Yurutse or BC of Ganda-la / Day 2 Yurutse or BC of Ganda-la – Skyu / Day 3 Skyu – Markha / Day 4 Markha – Thachuntse / Day 5 Thachuntse – Nimaling / Day 6 Nimaling – Chuskurmo / Day 7 Chuskurmo – Shang sumdo – Leh |
